One of the best ways to get an overview of what is going on at DMA is to check out our latest newsletter.  There you’ll find pictures and news about speakers, events, activities and new members.

DMA News Mar_April_May2024

Established in 1977, and now in its 45th year, the mission of the Darien Men’s Association (DMA) is to provide a forum in which retired and semi-retired men can find good fellowship, friendship, and fun amidst a range of activities designed to nourish both body and mind while promoting a sense of community.

We have a general meeting every Wednesday morning from 9.45 am to 12 noon from the beginning of September to the end of May. In addition, throughout the week smaller groups participate in activities ranging from bowling to book club, current affairs to investments, bridge, tennis, pickleball, golf, hiking, walks in New York City and whatever other activity you want to start that can attract a following. About 6-8 times a year we have field trips to museums, the theater, or to other cultural events – always combined with a meal. Just to cite two such events that took place in our last full pre-Covid year 2019-20: an evening of hors d’oeuvres and Chamber Music featuring members of the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra exclusively for the DMA, and a trip to Yale Museum of Art with lunch at the Union Cafe in New Haven and ending with a visit to the Two Roads Brewery.

But the highlight of our Calendar is always the Speaker’s Program during our weekly meetings on Wednesday. Here we present notable speakers on a variety of subjects. Recent speakers have included the Curator in charge of the Medieval Art at the Met discussing John D Rockefeller’s contribution to the Met Cloisters, a DMA member relating his experiences with the A10 Thunderbolt aircraft and a UConn professor discussing the history of stone walls in Connecticut.   See past and future speakers at: Speaker Listing

We invite you to browse our website, most particularly our bi-monthly Newsletters under the Member News tab. These Newsletters provide a good sense of what the DMA is all about. The tabs titled Speakers, Events and Activities give a more comprehensive view of these particular offerings of the DMA.

The DMA is affiliated with the Darien Community Center (DCA) (www.DarienDCA.org) and our Wednesday meetings are usually held at the Meadowlands, the historic DCA building at 274 Middlesex Road, Darien. During the pandemic crisis we continue to meet via Zoom, but will return to in-person meetings as soon as it is safe to do so.

We are an open and welcoming organization so if you are over 50 years of age and are interested in joining or learning more about the DMA, feel free to contact Art Baron, Chairman of our Membership and Hospitality Committee.  He can be reached via our general mailbox dariendma@gmail.com.
