Gary was born in Iowa but grew up in Ft. Lauderdale. He spent his career doing business process redesign enabled by IT – a hybrid of IT, Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. Some of that time was in corporate – P&G, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Monsanto, and Xerox. Other work was in Private Equity with firms investing in distressed companies such as automotive and textiles.
His education includes a BA from Tulane, MA in Math from U. Penn and MS in Operations Research from Columbia.
He now lives in West Hartford with his wife Martha. He has two daughters and three granddaughters who all live close by.
He had the honor of being DMA’s president for 2020-21 through the first year of the pandemic and was the Speaker Chairman when the pandemic erupted. He was on the team that developed the capability of hybrid meetings – not knowing that it would allow him to remain active when he moved. He remains the webmaster for the DMA website. Outside of DMA, he enjoys sailing, hiking, politics, and woodworking.
William B. Holding, a prominent banker and accomplished painter whose joys were his family and music, died peacefully on August 15 in Darien, Connecticut. He was 84.
Dan Eng was born in Guangzhou, Chi-na, in 1949 and grew up in Newark, N.J. He received a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from the New Jersey Insti-tute of Technology in 1971 and an M.B.A. degree from the Tuck School of Dartmouth College in 1974. Dan has worked in the oil and gas in-dustry his entire career beginning with Exxon and moving on to, Gulf Oil Company, ARCO, British Petroleum, General Electric, Goldman Sachs and OVM Petrom. He has lived and worked in New York City, Houston, Beijing, London, Jakarta and Singapore retiring in 2014. He and his wife Chris live in New Canaan and have three children and four grandchildren. His interests include water color painting, reading, golf, hiking, paddle tennis, ping pong and wood working.
John Bosee was born in 1952 in New York City and grew up in Old Green-wich, Conn. He graduated in 1970 from the Loomis Chaffee School where he played football, lacrosse and wrestled. He also played the drums in bands and raced sailboats. He received a B.A. degree in interdisciplinary studies from Bethany College in 1974 where he was active in sports, student government, was a disk jockey on a radio station and performed and directed theater productions. He received a J.D. degree in 1977 from Brooklyn College. He has worked for various law firms in New York City and Connecticut and tried hundreds of commercial cases. He was appointed assistant district attorney, Queens County, N.Y. and later joined the law firm of Kroll and Tract to do international insurance litigation. He also works with international students from over 22 countries and currently supervises 23 Chinese students in Rockland County, N.Y. He and his wife Juanita live in Darien and have two children. John was a commissioner for the Charter Revision Commission, Darien, and served three years as a Representative to the Darien Town Meeting. He is a member of the First Congregational Church and at the Darien YMCA served as water front director for the past two summers.
Tony Yezzi was born in Albany, N.Y., in 1952 and grew up in Loudonville, N.Y. He graduated from Shaker High School in 1970 where he played football and was on the track team. He went on to receive a B.S. degree in industrial engineering from Lehigh University in 1974 and an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1976. That same year he went to work for Hewitt Associates Inc., now AON, in Chica-go where he worked as a pension actuary and later retired in 2015. Tony and his wife Jane live in Darien and have two adult children. He is a member of the Society of Actuaries and enjoys golf, bowling, sports and the theater.
Jan Selkowitz was born in Pittsfield, Mass., in 1944 and graduated from Lenox Prep School in 1961 where he was on the tennis, ski and soccer teams as well as a member of the French Club and the school newspaper. He received a B.A. degree in French and economics in 1966 from St. Lawrence University where he was a member of the ski team and coached the women’s ski team. He studied one year at the Sorbonne in Paris. Upon graduating, he taught French at the Lenox School and then joined Sportswear International Ltd for 18 years. He then became president of Salem Straits Ltd, and for the next 29 years spent much of his time working in Asia, Turkey and Africa. Jan and his wife Min live in Darien and have two children. He is a member of the Tokeneke Club, the Pittsfield Country Club and Chelsea Piers. He enjoys skiing, tennis, reading, movies and traveling with his family.
Roger Renz was born in Englewood, N.J, in 1943 and graduated in 1961 from Ramsey, N.J., High School where he was a member of the cross-country team. He received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University in 1965 and an M.B.A. from Columbia University in 1967. He began two years active duty in the U.S. Army in 1967. In 1969, he joined IBM as a salesman in the Washington, D.C. area and held various jobs in computer sales, product management and pricing. Upon leaving IBM in 2010, he spent five years with Dassault Systemes and retired in 2015. Roger and his wife Shirley live in Rowayton. He has two children and his wife has three children. There are four grand-children. He is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stamford and enjoys skiing and sailing.
Harry McLachlin was born in San Francsico, CA., in 1948 and later moved with his family to Tenalfy, New Jersey, where he graduated in 1965 from high school and was a member of the Math Club and played varsity baseball and bas-ketball. He received a B.A. degree in history in 1969 from Carleton College. He received a J.D. degree from the University of Washington in 1977 and was managing editor of the Washington Law Review. Harry’s service in the U.S. Navy included Sup-ply Officer on the USS Sam Rayburn after at-tending officer candidate school, supply school and submarine school.He began his career in banking and finance law with the law firm of Davis, Wright Todd, Riese & Jones in Seattle, Wash., and later worked for the Algemene Bank Nederland in Amsterdam; the ABN Bank in Chicago; Mitsubishi Capital in New York; and the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubish in New York. He retired in 2010. Harry and his wife Marjolein live in Darien and have two adult children. He is a member of the Alliance Francaise of Greenwich, ABC in Darien, the First Congregational Church of Darien and the Darien Book Aid. His interests include travel in France and Europe, reading history, hiking and French culture chansons.
Robert McGroarty was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1945 and graduated from St. Johns Preparatory School in 1962 where he was on the swimming team and the school newspa-per. He received a B.S. degree in Political Science in 19667 from the University of Scran-ton and was a class officer, played intramural sports and managed a band. He began his business career in 1967 as a media buyer with Needham, Harper and Steers advertising agency in New York City and in 1969 joined Life Magazine in Cleveland, Ohio, selling advertising. He then joined the CBS Radio Division in 1971 serving in various executive positions in New York City and Boston. He went on to work for Warner Communications in cable television and started a programing company with two former CBS executives. Later he worked at Citibank, Greenwich Capital, and Eaton Associates and then started RGM Consulting and Bridge 1 Advisors. Robert and his wife Betsy live in Rowayton and have three children and eight grandchildren. He is a member of Score and the Silvermine Golf Club. He enjoys golf, boating, reading, politics, exercise and travel.
David McCollum was born in Aurora, Ill., in 1941 and was raised in Glen Ellyn, Ill. He graduated from Glenbard Township High School in 1959, where he played golf and basketball and served as business manager of the yearbook. He received a B.A. degree in economics from Dart-mouth College in 1963 and was captain of the golf team, treasurer of Sigma Alpa Epsilon fraternity and treasurer of the Interfraternity Council. He received an M.B.A. degree in 1965 from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. His 32-year career with Citi-group began in 1965 in New York City and included one year in Boston and three years in Manila. He retired in 2001 as customer group executive in charge of half of North Amer-ica. David and his wife Suzanna recently moved from Darien to Rowayton and have three children and 10 grandchildren. He is past president of Wee Burn Country Club and past captain of The 200 Club. He is a member of the National Golf Links of America, the Taconic Golf Club and Rowayton Yacht Club. He en-joys golf, skiing, travel, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and time with his family.
Bob Fiske was born in 1930 in New York City and grew up in Darien. He graduated from the Pomfret School in 1948, where he played football, hockey and baseball. He received a B.A. degree from Yale in 1952 and played hockey and lacrosse. In 1955, he received a J.D. degree from the University of Michigan and was a member of the Law Review. In 1955, he joined Davis, Polk & Wardwell as a litigator and remained in private practice with the firm for his entire career. In public service from 1957 to 1980, he was assistant U.S. attorney and U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. In 1994, he was named independent counsel for the Whitewater investigation. Bob and his wife Janet live in Darien and have three children and five grandchildren. He is a member of Noroton Yacht Club, Wee Burn Country Club and the Century Association. He enjoys tennis, sailing, cross-country skiing, music and reading.
Henry Bergen was born in New York, N.Y., in 1949 and grew up in Middle Village, N.Y. He graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School in 1967, where he served as a member of the Radio Club, played intramural sports and was an ardent basketball fan. He received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1971 and an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1975. His business career includes work for Citibank as a travelers’ check investigator, Sperry Gyroscope Company as a components engineer and Cox & Company as a design engineer. He then began a 22-year career with IPC Systems Inc., where he was a design engineer, vice president of engineering, vice president of marketing and vice president of sales, retiring in 2008. Henry and his wife Connie live in Darien and have two children and one grandchild. He plays the guitar in a ‘60s rock band called the Twisted Resistor, whose members include former co-workers. He is a member of the Darien History Book Club and a Lifetime Learner at Norwalk Community College. He enjoys electrical circuit design, golf, Bible study, history and tutoring.
