2014 Events Planned

The Social Committee has prepared an active and interesting program of events for 2014 as follows:

September 11th, Visit to the Samuel Morse House and lunch at the CIA. Later a tour of the Storm King Sculpture Park.

October 2nd, Lunch at the Gelson House and attend a play at the Goodspeed Playhouse in East Haddam.

December 11, Tour the New York Botanical Garden Christmas Train Show with lunch at LaPanetiere restaurant in Rye.

DCA Blue Notes entertain members and guests — December 18, 2013

Founded over 60 years ago, the Blue Notes are a group of women who use their voices for a good cause. Singing 4-part harmony, covering music from Big Band to Broadway, the group performs at senior centers and assisted living venues throughout Southern Fairfield County, as well as at the DCA. Their director – Dr. Craig Scott Symons – is also the director of the First Congregational Church of Greenwich choir. The DCA is proud to have the Blue Notes as a key part of our philanthropic mission.

The Blue Notes Group take pride in providing high quality entertainment and enjoyment to audiences and the DMA takes pride in asking them back year after year to sing for us.

Concert starts at 11 am.

This quote captures FDR’s connection to Springwood, the estate that he loved & the place he considered home. The first US Presidential Library was started by FDR here. Visit the Home of FDR and Presidential Library & Museum to learn about the only President elected to four terms.

The price is $70 per person.

Bus departs from  the parking lot of the Christian Science Church located at 2331 Post Road. (Salt Box Lane is the cross street.) at 7:30am SHARP, boarding starts at 7:15am.

DO NOT GO TO 1904 POST ROAD WHICH IS THE READING ROOM OF THE CHURCH.

Annual Summer Picnic — 2013

The DMA Annual Summer Picnic will be celebrated on August 15, 2013 from 5 pm to 8:30 pm at the Weed Beach picnic area. DMA will provide beer, wine, and soft drinks, as well as eating utensils, plates and cups. Although this event is free, it is a potluck dinner, so please bring one of the following foods:

A — G Dessert
H — M Salad, pasta, vegetables, etc.
N — Z Casserole or meat platter

Please be sure to bring suitable serving pieces for your food dish. For your comfort, bring folding chairs, tables, and insect repellent!

IMPORTANT! Absolutely no glass containers or bottles should be brought. Darien resident attendees should have a valid beach sticker of their vehicles. Non-resident attendees should check-in at the Gate House and advise the guard that they are attending the annual DMA Picnic. Reservations are not required, but are appreciated! Summer Barbecue and Jazz Festival — June 23, 2013

JazzGroupThe Annual Summer Barbecue and Jazz Festival will be held on Sunday, June 23rd, from 5pm – 9pm at the Country Club of Darien.

The cash bar will opens at 5pm.

Plan on a lively mix of jazz concert and dancing. The music will be provided by the Joe Holmes Dixieland Band, joined at dinner time by jazz singer Nicole Pasternack.

 

Dinner will be served outside (weather permitting); there will also be some seating indoors.

Our Menu is

  • Mixed green salad with condiments
  • Cold trilogue pasta salad
  • Hamburgers, cheese burgers
  • Grilled chicken
  • Italian sausage and peppers
  • Grilled vegetable platter
  • Dessert of sliced watermelon, and assorted cookies
  • Coffee, tea, iced tea

Wine will be served with the meal.

You can sign up at any Wednesday DMA meeting prior to the event.
