Terry Fitzgerald was born 1942 in St. Albans, Vt. He attended local schools and graduated Bellows Free Academy in 1959. He attended the University of Vermont receiving a B.A. degree in chemistry in 1963 and an M.D. degree in 1968.  Fitzgerald’s completed his postdoctoral training in Pediatrics, Allergy and Immunology at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, VA., in 1972. He then served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, Augusta, GA., until 1974.

Upon leaving the Army, he moved to Darien with his wife, Jacquie, and their three children.

Fitzgerald conducted a medical practice focusing on Clinical Allergy and Immunology in Stamford, Conn., through 2002.  From 1992 to 1994 he also served as Chief of the Medical Staff at St. Joseph Medical Center in Stamford. In 1997, he accepted a position
as Medical Director at Oxford Health Plans and continued in that role when Oxford Health Plans was acquired by United Healthcare. He retired in 2012
