Stephen Gravereaux was born 1941 in New Canaan, Conn. He attended the Little Red Schoolhouse, the last working one room school in Connecticut, and graduated from New Canaan High school in 1959. He received a degree in business from the University of Connecticut and skated on the University’s first hockey team, receiving a letter for three years.
He then joined the U.S. Navy and served three and one-half years active duty on a destroyer followed by 24 years in the reserve. He went on to work for Citizens Utilities, Stamford, and retired from Norden Systems in 1995.
Gravereaux is past president and current treasurer of the Navy League Western Connecticut council and for 25 years was an instructor at the United States Sea Cadet Unit, Stamford, Conn. He is a member of the Town Players of New Canaan at the Powerhouse where he is a set builder and maintenance man. He also serves as curator of the Little Red Schoolhouse Museum and is on the board of the New Canaan Historical Society.
He and his wife Andrea live in Rowayton and have three children; a doctor in Boston, a school teacher in New Jersey and a landscaper in New Canaan. There are seven grandchildren.
