Dr. Richard P. Morel

Dr. Richard P. Morel is an experienced internist with over two decades of experience in adult primary care. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his residency in internal medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Columbia campus. Dr. Morel is board- certified in internal medicine and serves as the President and CEO of Stamford Health Medical Group.

Healthspans Initiative

Dr. Morel will kick off our 2026-7 Darien DMA Healthspans Initiative. As a practicing Internal Medicine physician, he covers a wide range of issues relating to patient health and will give us an overview of how to enhance our healthspans and of Stamford Health as a resource.

Purpose

To optimize the health span of DMA members to encourage a healthy and active life through exercise, education and programming. Health span is the period of life spent in good health, free from chronic diseases, disabilities, and severe cognitive decline. While lifespan measures the total number of years lived, health span focuses on the quality of those years, aiming to maximize active, independent living.  It emphasizes living better, not just longer.

Goals

To increase physical strength and improve flexibility, mobility, balance, as well as building up cardiovascular health.  The program will start & end with a YMCA-conducted so-called “InBody 570” body composition assessment along with basic fitness tests to measure fitness improvements.  This program offers two certified YMCA personal trainers during each session who will guide DMA members on proper form and technique.
