It was with great sadness that we learned of the sudden passing last week of our great friend and beloved DMA member Wally Pugh.

Wally died on August 6, 2013 at age 78.

Wally was a man we could always count on for good advice, and a thoughtful, well-turned word or two about current activities.

Wally was active on our Audit Committee for many years, where his long-time professional experience was invaluable to the DMA.

He also served on our Program Committee, where his valuable contacts with the local town government provided us with many stimulating and interesting speakers.

Wally was a warm and dear friend to many of us. We will miss him.

Our hearts and condolences go out to Wally’s wife Sybil, and his entire family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10:00am at the Noroton Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow at the Country Club of Darien.

Bill Ball
President

The following is taken from the PWC (Price Waterhouse) announcement.

Wally joined legacy Price Waterhouse in 1960 at New York and was admitted to the partnership in 1969 at Los Angeles.  Over the years Wally also served the firm in our offices in Syracuse, Buffalo and Chicago.  An “Audit Methods” partner, Wally was a pioneer in the Computer Information Services world.  For many years Wally was also involved in the PW Foundation and the PW Professorship Program.  He enjoyed going to campuses to recruit and to talk with professors about the latest computer auditing trends.

After his retirement in 1995, Wally went to India as a consultant with the firm’s Office of Government Services to work on India’s Financial Institutions Reform and Extension (FIRE) Project.  Later, he worked with the president of the Jakarta Stock Exchange on a special project.   Wally was also one of the longest-serving members of the PwC Retired Partners Committee, having served for more than a decade on this Committee.

In addition to his wife Sybil, Wally is survived by their daughters Sybil and Christina.  The family plans to hold a memorial service this fall.  We will pass on the details when they become available.

Messages of condolence may be sent to Sybil at:
