About:

Darien Book Aid   In existence since 1949, Darien Book Aid is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that builds a foundation of peace, understanding, and friendship through the free distribution of books. Darien Book Aid sends hand-selected books in response to specific requests from Peace Corps volunteers, libraries and schools all over the world   Books are also donated to libraries, prisons, hospitals, and Native American and Appalachian groups in the United States.

How you can contribute:

Donate today – any donation helps. $100 sends a box of books to communities in need. Whether you are a high school student, senior citizen, or busy professional looking to volunteer at a great organization, we can use your help. Volunteer opportunities include:

Selecting books and packing boxes for shipping.

Sorting and shelving donated books.

Assisting the shipping chairperson.

Assisting with fundraising or publicity.

Volunteers can work anywhere from multiple times per week to once a month, depending on your availability.  Many books can be sorted in one hour.  It takes approximately two hours to select and pack an order. To express your interest in volunteering, email us at darienbookaid@yahoo.com, stop by, or call us at 203-655-2777 during the workshop hours listed on the right. We have a lot of fun and would love to have you join us.
